Description

 

The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of basic and advanced immunology. It is appropriate both for beginners and for students with prior knowledge in immunology. The course is based on the well-known textbook "Cellular and Molecular Immunology" by Abul Abbas et al. In each session, a course participant will present a chapter of the book and lead a short discussion. Experts in the different fields will be invited to supervise the discussion and to provide additional insights.

 

 

 

Programme

The course is divided into two modules:

 

Module 1: Basic Immunology introduces innate and adaptive immunity and the mechanisms of the humoral and cellular responses. It consist of 12 sessions from January to June 2021.

 

Module 2: Advanced immunology examines in depth topics such as regional immunity, immune deficiencies, transplantation and autoimmunity, cancer immunology and immunotherapies. It consists of 8 sessions from September to December 2021. Successful completion of Module 1 is required to register to Module 2.

 

Course requirements: The course is open to 6 to 15 PhD students and is accessible to students with basic knowledge in cellular biology. Master students and postdocs can participate according to availability. Students are expected to read the required chapters in the textbook and to take turns presenting chapters. A minimum attendance of 75 % is required. Each module will be assessed with an oral exam, and 3 ECTS for Module 1 and 2.5 ECTS for Module 2 will be awarded.
